Canon Eurpoe has just announced the new Canon 4K EOS 1 D C Camera. Here is a straight up rip from the Canon Europe post on the C.P.S. website.
Canon has unveiled the 4K EOS-1D C – the most advanced EOS DSLR ever for shooting movies and the first DSLR camera to join Canon’s Cinema EOS System.
The EOS-1D C retains the functionality of the 18.1 Megapixel EOS-1D X and adds advanced video functions – such as 4K recording to CF cards, and high-speed shooting at 60p (NTSC) or 50p (PAL) in Full HD – in a compact body favoured by DSLR filmmakers.
Inheriting the Canon Log Gamma option from other Canon Cinema EOS cameras, the EOS-1D C is ideal as a second camera used in conjunction with EOS C300 and EOS C300 PL Digital Cinema Cameras. To further enhance this capability the EOS-1D C DSLR can be set to crop to the same format as the Super 35mm format of the EOS C300/C300PL cameras.
The combination of functionality, filming formats and image quality mean that the EOS-1D C is more than capable of being used as a stand-alone capture device. Third party accessories are catered for from the outset with the inclusion of a positional plug on the base plate of the camera to allow for the precise attachment of such accessories.
The EOS-1D C occupies a unique position in the market as no other product offers a combination of such advanced photo and video features in a single camera body.

CINEMA LENS RANGE GROWS
Canon has also revealed that four new 4K zooms will be added to its Cinema Lens range. The lenses are the CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8L S (EF mount), the CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8L SP (PL mount), the CN-E30-105mm T2.8L S (EF mount), and the CN-E30-105mm T2.8L SP (PL mount).
All four new lenses deliver exceptional 4K (4096×2160 pixels), optical performance and offer compatibility with Super 35mm-equivalent sensors. They provide the very best video quality with familiar ‘cinema’ handling.
Canon has been long established in the field of high quality optics for all imaging applications. The new Cinema Lenses will complement the high-resolution capabilities of the 4K EOS-1D C and are perfectly matched to the Super 35mm format CMOS sensor on the EOS C300 and EOS C300 PL cameras.
These lenses provide filmmakers with optimum optical performance allied with precise control of focus and aperture, with the EF mount versions of the lenses providing electrical contacts for the transfer of lens metadata and compatibility with Peripheral Illumination Correction. The PL mount versions make the lenses available to users of other makers’ cameras.
The four new zoom lenses join the CN-E14.5-60mm T2.6L S (EF mount), CN-E14.5-60mm T2.6L SP (PL mount), CN-E30-300mm T2.95-3.7L S (EF mount), CN-E30-300mm T2.95-3.7L SP (PL mount), CN-E24mm T1.5L F, CN-E50mm T1.3L F and CN-E85mm T1.3L F lenses to bring Canon’s Cinema Lens range up to 11. Further lenses will be added to the range in the future.
Engadget is reporting that the new Canon 1D C camera will cost around $15K with no price yet for the Canon C500. Here are some photos from Engadget.
